Originally Homestead House was a reproduction furniture company that specialized in finishes using traditional paints and colours. Milk paint was able to create these exceptional finishes but was a relatively unknown commodity that was difficult to obtain.. In 1988 Homestead House changed its focus from furniture to paints, becoming Canada’s only milk paint manufacturer. There was a huge demand for the warm environment created by the deep, rich tones of these historical colours. A milk protein/limestone based paint however is limited in applications to any porous surface such as new wood, unsealed wood or plaster. Consumers wanted these colours available for all home decorating needs.

The result was Homestead House expanding to include premium bases that satisfied one coat coverage and provided superior durability. Our historical colours are now available in Traditional Oil as well as 100% Acrylic Latex , for all your home decorating inside and out.

With sizes ranging from half-pints (250ml colour testers) to gallons we are able to provide for any size job. Our product line also now includes Crackle Medium, Oil-Based Varnish as well as environmentally friendly Wood Stains and Beeswax Finish. From Authentic Milk Paint on your armoire, to 100% Acrylic on your walls to Traditional Oil on your front door, the three product lines allow the colour range to be carried throughout your home.
