Crackle Medium forces a weathered appearance by producing small, subtle to large, pronounced cracks when used with our Acrylic Latex and should be sealed with Traditional Varnish. This water based medium is fun to use and the colour combinations are endless.

- Crackle medium can be applied over new or old painted surfaces, wood, glass, metal o plaster. This surface will show through the cracks in the finished project
- If a specific colour is desired to show through the cracks, then this base colour is to be applied before crackle medium
- The coat of paint applied on top of crackle medium will be the one to produce cracks
- We suggest a practice sample be tested
Directions:
- Surface must be clean (no oil or wax) and dry.
- Apply evenly wherever the crackle look is desired.
- Allow approximately 1 hour to dry
- Select Homestead House’s Acrylic Latex or Milk Paint
- Use enough paint on your brush to avoid touch-ups.
- Brush in one direction with single strokes
- A second pass over the same area will disturb the crackle
- Crackles will appear as the paint dries
- Thick layer of paint equals large cracks; thin layer of crackle equals small cracks
- Allow 5 days to cure then protect with a solvent based polyurethane or Homestead House’s own satin urethane.
