Application Techniques for the Alkyd Primer
Surface Preparation: Surface must be dry, clean, free of dust, grease, oil, wax, chalking, mildew and loose paint. Never use a pressure washer to wash surfaces prior to priming or painting.
Cleaning: Wash away greases, oil, waxes, dirt etc. using TSP. Removing mildew requires a 1:3 solution of bleach:water. Rinse well.
Sanding: Lightly sand high gloss areas with fine sandpaper. Grey or weathered wood requires heavy sanding. Wearing a mask is advisable. Seal wood knots with shelac before priming.
Application: Stir thoroughly. Wait until patched areas are internally dry. Do not paint below 10ºC, or during wet weather.
Exterior Tip: After a heavy rainfall wait for 3 dry days to ensure dryness prior to priming so that you don’t trap moisture under the primer.
Caution: Keep away from sparks and flames. Keep out of reach of children. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin & clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.
Contact: Eye - Flush immediately with water for 20 min. Skin - wash thoroughly with soap and water.
Ingestion: do NOT induce vomiting, get medical attention.
