Application Techniques

Homestead House Wood Stain is made from the same earthen ingreadients found in our environmentally friendly Authentic Milk Paint. You simply mix with water to produce a non-sealing wood stain suitable for any wood. It can be used under any type of finish. We recommend it prior to milk-painting in preparation for the “Distressed Effect”. The wood must be new or free of any previous finish as this stain soaks in and binds with wood fibers. It can be applied by brush, sponge brush, roller, sprayer or by diping. This water based stain dries very fast(approximately 30 minutes) with absolutely NO FUMES. Any leftover stain can be poured down the drain. Soap and water cealn-up. Available in 4 colours: Pacific Redwood, Provincial Walnut, Quebec Maple and Sherwood Brown.

Directions:

Using a kitchen blender, mix contents 50g with 2 cups of water for 1-2 minutes. Apply to wood that has been thoroughly sanded with a fine grit (this decreases the chances of a blotchy look). Spot check colour in an inconspicuous place. You do this by applying a small amount of Beeswax Finish or even cooking oil to see the resulting colour. If your spot check shows a colour too light, then apply a second coat of stain on your project. Stir stain frequently while using. When dry( approximately 30 minutes) it is time for milk painting. If you are not planning to milk paint then you will need to seal your stained project. First, sand very lightly in direction of the grain. Then seal the wood with either of these two environmentally friendly products:

• Produces a beautiful hand rubbed finish
• 100% Environmentally Friendly - is actually food safe so this product is great for revitalizing wooden cutting boards, salad bowls, etc.
• Excellent for cribs, children’s toys etc.
• Re-wax annually
• Available in 50g and 200g sizes

Homestead House Hemp Oil Wood Finish:

• Produces a beautiful satin finish
• 100% Environmentally Friendly - is actually food safe so this product is great for revitalizing wooden cutting boards, salad bowls, etc. It will never go rancid like other oils
• Excellent for cribs, children’s toys etc.
• Re oil as needed depending on use and placement of wood piece. For exterior pieces, every 1-2 years is recommended, for interior once every 5 years, or as desired.
• Available in 500ml, 1 Litre, Gallon size and larger upon request.
